How Many of Us by Hanlula Yimkhiung

How many of us
are wearing layers and layers of clothing,
trying to hide every inch of our skin
we don’t want others to see?

How many of us
are greasing our faces
with layers and layers of paint,
trying to hide every flaw
we don’t want others to see?

How many of us
are collecting mask after mask
for a masquerade that never ends?

Have we mastered the disguise,
or gotten lost in it?
